Improving your WordPress Page Rank (PR) With SEO:

In general, if you are a website master or a blogger it's really important to understand what is the PR (PageRank) and how to improve it. It's so simple to understand it Really. when i started searching for it i found two types of results, the official results with a lot of algorithms, and the simple results with simple definition. And both of them didn't feeds my hunger. I want to understand what PageRank really is by simple way. And the one who feeds my hunger at this point was Matt Cutts one of the most top expert in search engine optimization and Search engine ranking factors. This video was too long ago but it still very useful. So are you ready to begin?

content includes:

  • Why do you blog?
  • Relationship between WordPress and SEO.
  • SEO Optimization of WordPress. What plugins to use?
  • How Google work?
  • What is PageRank?
  • Avoid buying BackLinks.
  • How does Google rank pages?
  • How to be relevant? How to be on topic?
  • How to do better with keywords?
  • Regular user experience about your blog.
  • Using Google ADword keywords tool.
  • Using keywords in URL paths.
  • Tweaking titles, URLs, content.
  • SEO tips. Keywords.
  • On page stuff, don't over do it!
  • Being relevant. Summary.
  • Gaining a Reputation introduction.
  • Gaining a Reputation advanced guild.
  • Google tools can help.
  • Final tips.
  • Things you should not to.

Why do you blog?

  • Fame.
  • Access.
  • Attention.
  • Money.
  • Rankings.
  • Doing it for fun.
  • keeping up with the family.
  • Poem, rants, daily thoughts.
  • Posting recipes.
  • Deep desire to post cat pics.

At this point you need to define the reason that you are blogging for.As Matt says if you are blogging for fun or for keeping up with the family or any of the last five points so you got the power to do whatever you want, you don't need to watch this video or reading this tutorial unless you want to have some fun. Watching Matt is the fun it self really you will enjoy that but let's back to the point. Most of people blogging for one or more of the first five points. And if you do, you need to know how to do better in Google and that what we are going to talk about.

Relationship between WordPress and SEO:

As Matt says WordPress is a great choice because WordPress take care of 80-90% of the mechanics of search engine optimization (SEO) which mean how crawl-able website is? But although there's a few things you need to optimize it.

SEO Optimization of WordPress. What plugins to use?

  • Akismet.
  • Cookies for comments.
  • Enforce www preference.
  • FeedBurner FeedSmith.
  • WP super cache.

Akismet:

Akismet is an advanced hosted anti-spam service aimed at thwarting the underbelly of the web. It efficiently processes and analyzes masses of data from millions of sites and communities in real time. To fight the latest and dirtiest tactics embraced by the world's most proficient spammers, it learns and evolves every single second of every single day. Because you have better things to do.

Cookies for comments:

This plugin adds a style sheet or image to your blog's html source code. When a browser loads that style sheet or image a cookie is dropped. If that user then leaves a comment the cookie is checked. If it doesn't exist the comment is marked as spam. The plugin can also check how long it took a user to enter a comment. If it's too fast it's probably a spam bot. How fast can a legitimate user enter their name, email, web address and enter a well thought out comment?

WP super cache:

A very fast caching engine for WordPress that produces static html files.

Enforce www preference and FeedBurner FeedSmith was too long ago. So, i found non official information about them, you can take a look on Google.

How Google work?

Google crawl roughly in decreasing order of PageRank. Which mean the more PageRank you have the faster you will be found, the deeper Google will crawling your site, the more often Google will visit your pages to see if you made any updates on them. So, you will ask how to improve my PageRank but first do you know what is PageRank really is?

What is PageRank?

PR (PageRank) is not a secret and it's not so complicated to understand, it's so simple. You may saw the PR algorithm it's some complicated but Matt explained it by simple way. Here it is, PageRank is:

The number of importance of links points to you

For example if you have a blog and your friend has a blog, 10 links points to your blog and 20 links points to his blog, who has more PageRank? by this way he will get more PageRank. But, what if you got links from CNN, NY times, and high quality sites. And he got 20 links from friends blogs?

So PageRank is not a lot of links points to you as much as where they come from? So, how this work?

Let's say there's a site(A) with 100 PR links to two sites(B&C) which mean will split equally between them. So now we got site (A) with 100 PR, site (B) with 50 PR, and site (C) with 50 PR too. And there's although site (D) with 9 PR links to three sites, one of them is site (B). So, we have site (A) with 100 PR, site (B) with 53 PR, site (C) with 50 PR, and site (D) with 9 PR. And this how it work.

Avoid buying BackLinks:

Simply when Google tested some of those links, Google stuff found that all those links are broken and targets the 404 page which mean has no value to add to your blog.

How does Google rank pages?

You want to be relevant and reputable

Relevant is what in your page. Reputable is what people saying about your page and your blog, how they link to you. And you need to be both, you need to be on topic and although you need to be reputable.

How to be relevant? How to be on topic?

Relevant is the stuff on your page, what you wright includes the mechanic of how you write, to be relevant you need to ask your self:
  • What do i love?
  • What am i really good at doing?
  • What do i have to say?
If you don't love something don't write about it, you need to have something that you care about, to talk about something you really care about because if you write often if you write every day then you gonna write a good stuff.

How to do better with keywords?

Let's say we got a device like a flash driver, a USB driver. So, think if you gonna go to Google and type what this is what you gonna write? What you will search for in Google and what other people will search for in Google? What did you type in Google to find this device? Flash drive, USB drive, Fun drive. So, you think that is USB drive but someone else seeing it as a flash drive. The point is if you are a blogger think about all different ways that someone may describe something, think about ways to naturally put all possible keywords in your post.

Regular user experience about your blog:

Well, you may thinking about what word people gonna use in search and not thinking about what regular user going to say about your site or your blog. It's like when you enter a home page and says where am i in? I don't understand what is that? I don't even know, I don't know what it's about. So look at your site as a regular user or even ask your friends about it, get a feedback it's so important to know what regular users says about you.

Using Google ADword keywords tool:

One of the most important tools in SEO is Google keywords tool. If you are going to use a keyword you can ask google keyword to show you related keywords to it and show you how many searchers searching those related keywords. It's simply giving you an idea about what people searching for and that amazing because it's show you keywords that you didn't though about. So it's a very useful tool that let you know all possible keywords you need to put in your post.

Using keywords in URL paths:

  • Dashes are best.
  • Next best is underscores.
  • No spaces is worst
Google looks at a lot of different things, 200 factor and PR just one of them. Google looks at your URL, at your title. So using the keywords in the post URL giving you the chance to rank higher in Google. But, not a lot of keywords, just a few keywords will do. For simple example look at the URL of this post.

Tweaking titles, URLs, content:

As Matt says keyword like change if you going to use it, you can type change in the URL, changing in the title, Changes in the content and all possible words the searchers may use in Google search box.

SEO tips. Keywords:

  • Use categories that are although good keywords.
  • Keywords in URL paths: example.com/my-keywords
  • Someone should ask me: What if I've already done my site? Should i change things?
If you use underscores should you change every single page in your blog? Should you change all URLs in your site? No, spent your time in making better content. It's just to something to take care of while going forward in the feature.

On page stuff, don't over do it!

Repeating keywords over and over don't help any one even you, In fact using it between 2-6% of your words is so much better. Google don't say wow they guy got so much of this keyword in his page so it's the better result, no acutely if your keyword become more than 10% of your content Google may through it a way and get another one only got the keyword three-four times.

Being relevant. Summary:

  • Find something you're passionate about.
  • Write often.
  • Pay attention to the mechanics, don't over do it.

Gaining a Reputation introduction:

How to be more know? How to get more PageRank by people linking to you?

  • Be interesting.
  • Update often.
  • Apply Katamari Philosophy.

Be interesting:

Do you ever tried something good. Then you told a friend of you this thing is interesting, it's really amazing? If you did. So, you already know what is interesting.

Update often:

Write often and let users checks your blog for more new interesting thing.

Apply Katamari philosophy:

Katamari is a game that you get a small katamari like 1 cm tall, and you rolls up things and more bigger things. So you get 100 m katamari, you can roll up buildings and islands and the earth WOW. It work that way start small and you will roll up thing so you will be bigger and bigger over time.

Wordpress SEO guide to increase your pagerank

Monday, January 26, 2015

Web spam Content Violations. Define your content type:

The quality of your content one of the most important things in SEO and google ranking, not just this, but for you and your visitors, it's not important how much traffic? But, how much you can keep? what happen when you get 100.000 visitors and those visitors didn't like your content? simply they will leave and will never come back again, But you may get 5.000 visitor and keep 4000 with good experience and they will increases over the time. For that you need to define what kind of content you already have. Or, if you about to start your new website/blog you need to know the different between the high quality content and the low quality content and the spammy content (the non quality) so you can provide some content with a real value. And when it's come Google ranking it's better the get it from an expert to make sure you are not wasting your time. The one who feeds my hunger in this topic is Michael Wyszomierski one of the most top experts in search engine optimization and google ranking. So, are you ready to begin?

content include:

  • Syndicated content.
  • Affiliates.
  • Doorway sites.
  • Last word.

Syndicated content:

Which we call the non-quality content because it's got no value. Try to look at this point from two different views. As a user when you searching for something and you did not find a full information in first results you may continue checking other results and when you find the same information you will just close the page or heading back to results page, at this point you lost a visitor and just gave Google a bad feedback about your site. As google when meeting a Syndicated content he just through it a way from searchers maybe in far ranking and maybe in repeated Results. Duplicated content not even appear in search results until you go to the last page and asking to renew the search with the repeated results. Syndicated content not helping any body even you, if you use this strategy i advise you to start over building a new content with value.
Michael Wyszomierski: Syndicated content is content that is copied from anther website. Some sites copy content that stays on topic, but they don't add any of their own value. Other sites copy completely random and irrelevant content to increase their search traffic. Scraped content alone, even high quality content, does not provide any added value to your users.

Affiliates:

The high quality affiliate site and low quality affiliate site depending on the value that you added to the content. At this point you need to define the type of the value you adding to your content, A high quality or a low quality.
Michael Wyszomierski: If your site participates in affiliate programs, make sure your site adds value and gives the user a reason to visit your site. An example of a high quality affiliate site would be a bicycle blog with original reviews and commentary. An example of a low quality affiliate site would be a bicycle blog that provides only copied product discretion, accompanied by affiliate notes.

doorway sites:

Michael Wyszomierski: Doorway sites are created purely to drive users to anther website and often try to crowed the search results a particular term or phrase. This provides the user with a poor experience, as more than one search result will ultimately lead them to the same site.

Last word:

It's all about the value you add to your users, avoid syndicated content and make sure you are adding a real value to your website or your blog. And always think about improving your content and add more value which mean keeping most of your visitors with good experience.

Different between high quality and low quality and non quality content

Google seo tips for new websites below 50 pages:

One of the most important things to know when you consider to start a new web site or a new blog is to know how to start, if you read this that's mean you already interested about collecting information for your start up, but it's very important to get this information from an official expert who will show you the right direction to walk in and to make sure you are not wasting your time, for that my needs resort to Maile Ovhye one of the top experts in search engine optimization and google ranking, so .. are you ready to begin?

Start ups better qualified for this talk:

  • have their main content below 50 pages.
  • hope to rank only for handful of related items.
Maile Ovhye: This talk is aimed for companies who have their content below about 50 pages for those sites that are looking to rank for thousands of unrelated keywords like an eCommerce site or a news agency, you might wanna invest more time with SEO.

Objective:

  • Provide the basics in an efficient manner.
  • Rest assured that you're not doing something totally wrong related to Search.
  • Provide pointers for more information.
Maile Ovhye: My objective for this talk is to provide you the basics in the most efficient manner possible and to help you feel assured that you are not doing something totally wrong related to search , and last, to provide pointers for more information.

Select www or non-www:

Then 301 accordingly to consolidate indexing signals.

301 redirect

301 redirect

301 redirect

Maile Ovhye: The first thing to do with your new domain is to decide whether you want visitors to see the dub dub dub version or the non dub dub dub version, At which point your 301 redirect from your non preferred to your preferred version.

Why you have to choose www version or non www version as your main site?

That's simply because search engines looks at them as two different sites and this is not good for your website or your blog, looking at them as two different web sites may split your rank and do bad effect for your site ranking, this is why you should pick one and stick with it.

Which one to choose, the www version or non www version?

In fact choosing www version or non www version has no thing to do with SEO but there's a big different between them, although google suggest to use the www version as your main site.
Maile Ovhye: Many large corporations like google and facebook actually keep the dub dub dub version, but you're free to do which over you want. the reason why we use a 301 and not a 302 is because a 301 is a permanent redirect and that why it signal to applications like search engines to actually transfer all those indexing properties from the source to the target.

Verify ownership in Webmaster Tools:

When you verify your website owner ship in webmaster tools you receive messages from google webmaster tools team and the most two important messages you may receive:

  • When your website is in real dangerous.

Maile Ovhye: I encourage you to sign up for email forwarding. Email forwarding allows google when we have any message for you, like when we think you might been hacked or we think your site is hosting malware.

  • most of your website pages are not indexed.

Maile Ovhye: or we're having trouble crawling your site and we found a high number of unreachable URLs. So any of those messages can be forwarded to google webmaster tools and if you have email forwarding enabled, it can be forwarded directly to the inbox that you check every day.

Domain background check:

  • "Keywords" listed in Webmaster Tools.
  • Indexed with a [site:foo.com] search.
  • Rank when searching for domain name.
Maile Ovhye: One more research tip is to perform a background check on your domain. For example, if it was previously owned by spammers then you are not going to rank very well now. So, one good way to check is to look at the keywords listed in webmaster tools for your site and see if you see any unwanted words there. Although you can see if you are indexed by performing a site colon search with your domain.
Tip: Previously a spammy domain? Submit a reconsideration request through Webmaster Tools

Webmaster Tools. Fetch as Google bot:

Webmaster Tools. Fetch as Google bot

  • looking at your website as a google bot.

Maile Ovhye: I'd like to highlight the fetch the fetch as google bot feature in webmaster tools. It's a great feature cause you gave us a URL and then we perform a crawl as google bot, and you can see exactly whether we've been redirected appropriately and exactly what content we download.

  • indexing your new pages and updated pages in google faster.

Maile Ovhye: An additional part of this feature, and i think this is really useful, is that you can actually tell us to not just crawl but to submit to index for that URL. And this way, any time you update a page or you create an entirely new page you can trigger that entire process to happen by google and have it available to searchers even faster.

Include analytics code:

Start collecting data even if you're not ready to use it
Maile Ovhye: My next advise is to include analytics code whether it's google analytics or anther provider. Now you wanna start collecting this data even if you're not ready to use, it's because once you hire someone it's better to have some historical information about your site.

Strategy in site design:

Consider users/personas for your site

  • Customers

    • Parents/kids
    • Developers
    • Enthusiasts
    • First-time vs. loyal customer

  • Investors
  • Press
Maile Ovhye: The next is the strategy in your site design. You'll want to create a great experience for all your visitors and their different personas. So, consider your customers. Although your investors and what content will they see? Or even the press.

Site strategy ideas:

  • Utility: Does our site design meet the needs of each persona?

Maile Ovhye: Some questions to ask when it some to site strategy are utility. Does our site design meet the needs of each persona and does each persona have a great experience?

  • Navigation: If searcher lands on child page...
    • Can they figure out where they are?
    • Can they easily navigate to where they want to be?

Maile Ovhye: Navigation, if a searcher lands on a chilled page, and that's common with search results they don't funnel directly through your home page all the time, can they figure out where they are? And can they easily navigate to where they want to be?

  • Focused: Does each page contain one logical topic obvious to visitors?
Maile Ovhye: Another question is about whether or not your site is focused. Does each page contain one logical topic that obvious to visitors? It's common with start ups that because you are tight on and resources, that as you collect more and more information, you just add that to existing pages and make those extremely long forcing to scroll. But, instead, think about your site design and if that should be broken up into separate pages.

Define your conversion:

I want my <group foo> visitors to
  • Sign up for the newsletter
  • Contact our bizdev lead
  • Buy our product
  • Try our product
  • Share our service
Maile Ovhye: The next step and this is especially helpful for start ups is to defines your conversion whether that means for group foo visitors to sign up for the newsletter or to contact bizdev lead or to try our product, you want to have relevant conversion possible on every page like a call to action. And not force users to make extra clicks.
Make a relevant conversion possible on every page "don't force users to make extra clicks".

Be smart about your copy:

Include relevant keywords naturally in your text

  • Include query terms normal people would use to find your product/business (e.g., "running shoes," not "athletic footwear")
    • Research common terms through Adwords keywords tool.
    • Consider tag clouds and misspellings as fairly played out.

Maile Ovhye: When it comes to your copy or the actual information that you have on each page, it's great to include relevant keywords naturally in your text. These key words are like query terms that normal people would use to find your product or your business. So, for example, companies might call themselves as selling athletic footwear but in your actual copy it's better to include terms like running shoes which is what people actually search for.

Answer your visitors'/personas' questions
  • Is the product reputable? Show reviews, let users review.
  • What if it doesn't work? Explain customer satisfaction policy.
Maile Ovhye: One more thing i wanted to mention about the copy on your page is yo answer your visitors or the personas questions that they might have. For example, is the product reputable. Perhaps show reviews or let other user review. Or if a user might ask, "What if this product doesn't work" then explain the customers satisfaction policy.

Every page should include :

  • Unique topic
  • Unique title (displays in search results)
  • Unique meta description for the snippet
  • For non-dynamic sites: keywords in the filename, lowercase and hyphen separated
  • Descriptive anchor text for every link
Maile Ovhye: Every page should include a unique topic, a unique title as that can be displayed in search result, a unique meta description which might be displayed as the snippet and then for non dynamic sites, this is just a best practice, but it's good to have keywords in the file name, lower case and hyphen separated. And then, of course, descriptive anchor text for every link whether you linking internally or externally to anther site.
Anchor text: Room for improvement

"For more information on our product specifications, click here."
Maile Ovhye: Click here is not that descriptive. Better way to have it would be..

Anchor text: Good example!

"For more information, please read our product specifications."
Maile Ovhye: A good example of site that has a unique topic on each page as well as a unique title and descriptive anchor text can be showing with this search result for NASA. Now, NASA doesn't only have their home page shown, but although has generated site links. These site links algorithmically by Google but they can influenced by great design, having a unique title as well as great title.

Sitelinks

Anchor text: Good example!

Potential pitfalls:

  • Hiring a rogue or shady SEO (if they guarantee anything, that's bad news)
  • Participating in link schemes or buying links to pass Page Rank.
  • Focusing more on site fanciness than having indexable/searchable text.
Maile Ovhye: Please do not hire a rogue or shady SEO. If they guarantee any ranking it is too good to be true. Please don't participate in link schemes or buying links for the purpose of passing Page Rank. And last, i know it's great to have a fancy site but try not to focus so much on site fanciness that you don't actually have indexable and searchable text.

Speed:

  • Akamai study finds two seconds as customer "acceptability" threshold for e-commerce sites.
  • Google aims for under a half-second.
Maile Ovhye: Anther thing to consider about your site is the page low time. I've noticed a lot of start ups don't necessarily have time to focus on this. But, it's good to know that Akamai actually did  a study of eCommerce sites and found that 2 seconds is the threshold for eCommerce sites acceptability. At Google we aim for under a half second. In general the longer your page takes to load, the more likely it is that users can click a way.

Ranking:

  • Check how you rank for your company name. (Hopefully #1 and with site links.)
  • Understand how you rank for other terms through Webmaster Tools' Search Queries .
  • Get involved.
    • No one searches for your new kind of product or service? Perhaps prioritize finding a potential audience/community on existing forums, blogs, or social media sites.

To rank well, provide an awesome product or service, then attract buzz: natural links, +1s, likes, follows, shares...

Social media marketing:

  • Think holistically: Create an identity on key sites, participate, connect users to entry point of conversion.
  • Focus your energy where your audience hangs out.
  • Play to your authentic strengths

    • CEO likes to tweet.
    • Salesperson enjoys Facebook.
    • Developer already on Google+, Stack Overflow.

Takeaway...:

Even with great marketing

and terrific advertising,

valuable conversion still happens on your site.

Stay focused and make sure you're ready!
